I began breeding and showing with Persian cats but as their health was threatened by the increasing show demand for shorter faces I gave that up. Breeding and showing ended there, so everyone thought, until in 1988 a little red Cairn Terrier called Annic came into our lives as pet for a young family of four. She was a lovely bitch and as you can guess, she was shown one day and did very well. There it started all again!

We now have a kennel of Cairn Terriers and show and breed with success. One of our Championship Show Winners was one of the first Dutch Cairns to be shown at Crufts when it became possible under the new Pet Scheme. She gained Reserve in a very strong Open Class under the late Ron Birch of the famous KinKim Kennels. One thing lead to another, and in 1992 I began the difficult process of becoming a Show Judge, which in Holland is an entirely different system to that in England for example.  I am now a Terrier Group Judge and can also award CC’s to Griffons Bruxellois, -Belge and Petit Brabancon : Group 9.

Highlights in my judging career so far was judging at the World Dog Show in Amsterdam (76 Parson RT), Championship Show for Dandie Dinmont Terriers in England (67 DDT’s), Championship Show for Griffons in Tjechië (92 Griffons),  Kopenhagen Winner Show in Denmark (84 Cairns).

I am not an “old” judge, but I am very “into” judging; it is close to my heart. As I still show frequently I also know what it means to win. I know that great feeling of showing a quality dog with type, temperament, sound movement and groomed to perfection. I get the same feeling when I am judging and see a quality dog enter the ring...

I was born July 23rd, 1963 in Vienna, Austria. I was trained as a teacher for languages (English, French) at Vienna University,  today I work self-employed as Consultant and Trainer.

My association with dogs goes back to my childhood, we kept Standard Schnauzers, and Fox Terriers in our family. I trained these dogs (Obedience) and trimmed and showed them with great success. When adult, I focused on Skye-Terriers, Dachshunds and Poodles. I first met a Skye in 1977 and fell for the breed. An encounter with a Dachshund puppy in a New York petshop in the 1990ies started my connection with Dachshunds. After admiring Standard Poodles for years I finally acquired my first Poodle in 2007. Today I live with several Skye Terriers, Smooth Standard Dachshunds, 2 Standard Poodles and a Basset Hound. My kennel-name “Skyeomania” was registered in 1994, and 20 litters (Skyes and Dachshunds) have been raised since then.

From my childhood onwards I have always been fascinated by dog shows and in almost 40 years I have visited all important shows around the globe, including Europe, Scandinavia, UK and USA either as spectator, exhibitor or judge. My own dogs are exclusively groomed and handled by myself and I am proud of some European Winners, World Winners, Crufts Winners, Specialty Winners.

I acquired my judging licence for the terrier breeds in 1997 and have consequently added more breeds to my list, but it has always been my policy to judge only those breeds I have either owned or worked with and have deep knowledge of. Since 1997 I have judged breed specialties, national and international shows and a World Dog Show in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland – and USA!

Soundness and functionality are my principal concerns when judging and I appreciate a complimentary presentation. A stable temperament is essential for me.

Writing and education are two other concerns: For many years I was a member of the board of the Austrian Terrier Club(ÖKfT) in different positions, a tutor for judge-aspirants and a member of the editorial staff of “Unsere Hunde” – the magazine of the Austrian Kennel Club (ÖKV).
